7th Annual Beefsteak

A Big Success!

Helping Hands for Jorge sponsored it's 7th Annual Beefsteak on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the Boys & Girls Club of Clifton, NJ. The event was attended by over 425 supporters and raised over $23,000. Proceeds from the event benefited Jorge Grajales and Brianna Romanyshyn.

Jorge, who is the namesake and inspiration of our organization, had his hands and feet amputated when he was 14 months old due to a life threatening circulation infection. Proceeds from the Beefsteak have provided Jorge with new prosthetics and other quality of life aides. As Jorge continue to grow, he needs to be fitted with new prosthetics each year.

Brianna, a beautiful young girl, suffers from uncontrollable seizures. When she was 16 months old she had a resection of a part of the brain which left her without the ability to walk or talk. Proceeds from the Beefsteak will provide Brianna with walkers, adaptive chairs, physical therapy, and other devices that continuously need to be updated as she grows. Helping Hands for Jorge would like to especially thank all the individuals and businesses who provided support through ticket sales, donations, and gifts.

John P. Stevens H.S. Spanish Honor Society Fundraiser

On Friday, April 30, the Spanish Honor Society of John P. Stevens High School, in Edison New Jersey, held the Second Annual Helping Hands for Jorge Dinner.

With guidance from their advisor, Mrs. Elsa Maria Martinez, the members of the Spanish Honor Society organized the dinner. Local restaurants donated the food and a DJ provided the music. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Ramos taught everyone how to dance the "salsa".

A wonderful time was had by all. However, the star of the evening was Jorge himself. During the school year, the Spanish Honor Society holds a variety of fundraisers for Jorge, and those efforts culminate in the dinner.

This year a total of $2,100 was raised for Helping Hands for Jorge. Jorge holds a special place in the hearts of the students and staff of John P. Stevens High School. So having Jorge actually attend this dinner was the highlight of the night. Everyone can't wait until next year.
